We are excited to welcome Helping Hands back to Bowers School Farm!

THANK YOU for offering your care and time!

For youth under the age of 16, parents/guardians, you are expected to stay with your youth at the spot where they are volunteering for the entire time. This is for safety and balance needs.

Key responsibilities as an Open Barn volunteer are to be welcoming, provide kindness, share a positive experience, all while offering a place-based opportunity. A key point: always monitor the safety and care of the animals.  In other words, YOU get to share how cool the Bowers School Farm is with the community!

Please take the time to review the linked infographics to learn more details for each of our species. Feel welcome to take that information and research and learn deeper. Questions are natural - so please ask!

VOLUNTEER GUIDE is HERE

Please review and sign off on the last page.

Information pages for the animals at Bowers are HERE.

Please familiarize yourself with these!

The videos below are a great reference! We encourage you to look at them again between volunteer training days.

THE VIDEOS ARE HERE!

Ultimately, the safety of the animals and visitors is the number one priority. Next, we ask you to be a strong steward for the Bowers community.

The Day of Open Barn:

  • Each time you come: PARK in the staff area and NOT on the asphalt. The staff area is the lot closest to the big red barn, the westernmost gate on Square Lake Road.  Please open and close the gate as you come on property.

  • Sign in on the QR code to track your volunteer hours. This QR code is on the fridge in the Milk Room - please pick up a VOLUNTEER name tag simultaneously. Return when finished, no need to scan the QR code when you leave.

  • Parents/guardians, you are expected to be at the station with your youth (under 16).

  • No food or drink (water bottles ok!) when working with the animals. If you need a break, connect with the staff to ensure the station is covered before stepping away.

  • Please refrain from cell phone use when guests are present.

  • Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up. Thank you!

If you have not done so, get your Volunteer/4-H family/household membership at the Visitor Services Counter in the School Building.

For any questions please reach out to Megan or Kate.

Call/Text with questions: 248.510.2043 - please indicate that you are a helpful hands volunteer.

Earth Day is coming up!

Help out with 4H at the farm by signing up for a time to run the lemonade stand.  We will be accepting donations for lemonade all day to help support our club.

Earth Day Celebration- Lemonade Stand

Please help with our 4H Fundraiser at the Bowers Farm Earth Day Celebration.

We will need 4H-ers to mix and serve lemonade and share information about what our club is all about and why community support ($$$) will help us achieve our goals (care for our animals, purchase equipment to prepare for showing animals at the Oakland County Fair.)

We will have a tip jar for donations as well as a QR Code to a Give Butter link.
